Summer 2008 Program
“Preparing Children for Kindergarten”
Camp Kindergarten will provide children who are entering or just completing kindergarten a small taste of what the first year of school will be like. The camp will provide children an opportunity to develop and strengthen their social , academic vocabulary, pre-reading and listening skills. The camp will be led by three Master’s level speech-language pathologists who have many years teaching school age children. Camp will begin with a 15 minute circle time. Following circle time, the students will divide up into groups of four and rotate every twenty five minutes to a different station. The three stations will target: pre-reading and phonological awareness skills, vocabulary enrichment and oral expression utilizing story telling. Each week of camp all activities will revolve around one piece of familiar children’s literature. Parents will receive suggestions weekly regarding activities to do at home throughout the week in order to carryover what is being taught at camp. After this “mini-course” in Kindergarten, your child will have a small head start and be more confident on that first day of their academic journey.
